Do you have a sweater that your bored with? You keep looking at it in your closet but its not doing anything for you, you don’t know what to wear it with. So why not switch it up and add a little something to the sweater. Make an ombre sweater at home! Heres how to do it:

Things you will need: a sweater, neon fabric paint, small plate, small sponge and a scrap board

Prep yourself: Take the cardboard and place it inside the sweater so you don’t get paint on the other side of the sweater. Bring it up past the necklice, you want to keep the neckline clean as well. Pour a good amount of paint on the plate. Dip the sponge into the paint but dab the excess paint onto the plate. Don’t make the sponge too saturated with paint.

Test it out: Start dabbing the sponge around the neckline, gently and using minimum paint to see how much paint you like on the sweater.
Follow the neckline: Follow the neckline of the sweater; go out until you are a few inches deep.

Go outward: The key to the ombre look is fading from dark to light. So start from the top dark and outward light. Stamp the sponge further apart as you go outward. Work slowly and remember you could always add more paint to fill in gaps.

The finished look: Once you are finished let the sweater dry flat. Remove the cardboard once the front is dry and repeat the process on the back. Follow the directions on the fabric paint, heat-set if necessary to make your sweater washable.

So why go pay big bucks for an ombre sweater when you can do it yourself at home. Take that old sweater and make it funky with fabric paint. The best part about making this sweater is all you need to buy is paint and a sweater.

Follow these steps and have fun with it. You can even have your kids join the fun too. Keep your looks fashionable with paint and a sponge.
